BAY VILLAGE – Authorities have announced a press conference at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bay Village Police Department to announce developments in the 1989 murder and abduction of Amy Mihaljevic.
Mihaljevic was abducted on Oct. 27, 1989 from the Bay Square Shopping Center in Bay Village. On Feb. 8, 1990, the 10-year-old’s body was found in a field off County Road 1181 in northern Ashland County. Authorities said Mihaljevic had been stabbed and beaten.
Investigators believed the girl had received a phone call from a man she knew who persuaded her to go to the shopping center. Thousands of leads were followed but no one was ever charged.
Her case was one of the first featured on John Walsh’s “America’s Most Wanted” and media attention has remained focused on the case 27 years after her abduction.
Most recently, in 2014, the FBI announced a $25,000 reward for information about her death. At that time, the FBI said they were focusing on relatives of Mihaljevic’s late mother, Margaret McNulty.
According to a press release from the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, representatives from Bay Village police, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI will be at the news conference.
