ASHLAND — Featuring movies, candy, pizza and beer, Father’s Day weekend in Ashland is sure to please.
Outdoor Movie Night
The weekend kicks off with an outdoor movie night at Foundation Plaza on Friday.
Mayor Matt Miller said the city received a $7,800 grant from the Ashland County Community Foundation, which helped with the purchase of a 9-by-16 foot screen and a projector. Friday will mark the first of the summer, Miller said.
“We want to see how this goes, but we might be able to hold up to three movie nights this summer,” he said.
Guests should arrive by 9 p.m., he said. The movie — Aladdin, featuring Will Smith — will start as soon as it’s dark. But make sure you’re there on time.
“Thanks to donations, we’re able to provide free popcorn and movie candy to the first 500 guests,” Miller said.
The mayor said guests should also bring their own seating and blankets.
Fathers Eve
The weekend continues Saturday morning with Ashland’s first-ever Fathers Eve Event. The city adopted the idea from John Francis, who founded the concept with friends in St. Paul, Minn. in 2012.
A friend of Francis, who happens to live in Ashland, contacted Miller with the idea. So now the event will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Foundation Plaza.
The event, dubbed “Breakfast Pizza with Dad,” is a partnership between the city, Ohio Fire Pizza and the Norma Foundation. There will be roundtables and chairs and a large breakfast pizza for dads, stepdads, grandfathers and their children.
“The whole idea is we want to honor fathers for the important role they play in our community,” Miller said.
Ashland Ale Fest
Later on in the day on Saturday is the second-annual Ashland Ale Fest, from 4 to 8 p.m. Last year’s event sold out — so don’t miss the opportunity for a good time celebrating local craft beers.
Tickets to the event start at $15 and can be found here.
There will be live music, food trucks and beer from more than 20 Ohio breweries.
