ASHLAND — Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking a part-time subcontractor to facilitate the Leadership Ashland program’s 2023-2024 class year (September 2023 – June 2024).

Leadership Ashland is dedicated to providing participants with actionable leadership skills that can be applied in their workplace, as well as in the larger community.

Leadership Ashland is not just about leadership theories – it is about equipping leaders with the practical skills necessary to create effective teams and improve organizational performance.

Through a combination of classroom and experiential learning, participants have the opportunity to develop a heightened awareness of their strengths, learning style, and what it means to be a leader capable of discussing topics and building relationships on all levels.

Responsibilities include:

Knowledge and use of the Clifton Strengths Assessment curriculum

Recruitment and orientation for class of approximately 25 participants

Facilitation during Class Retreat, eight focus area days, and a county tour

Manage class participants in planning/implementing a community service project

Ongoing research on best practices for community leadership programs to remain relevant and continue offering a high-quality program long into the future.

Important skills include:

An objective approach to facilitation to ensure that outcomes of the program are guided by the process itself, rather than internal agendas or personal bias.

Excellent organizational skills to communicate expectations for each class.

Empathy and understanding as well as the ability to listen to different perspectives.

Authenticity to build trust and create psychological safety for the participants to engage in discussions of community strengths and challenges.

Assertiveness and confidence to keep the group focused and on topic, managing conversations to move participants through productive discussions.

Clear, precise, and engaging conversational skills.

Willingness to adapt, be flexible, and improvise as the situation requires.

Experience:

Bachelor’s or equivalent preferred.

Prior experience in facilitating and/or participating in professional/leadership development programs.

Experience with virtual platforms.

Experience creating engaging presentations.
