ASHLAND -- Rise Studios Wellness Collective celebrated their official opening Thursday afternoon, bringing Ashland's Main Street a promotion of mind, soul and physical wellness.
A longtime ambition of owner and founder Aubrey Bates, Rise Studios "stretched" themselves into an over 5,000 square-foot home, a notably larger space from a few years ago when they resided in a 700 square-foot facility on Union Street.
While growing, they also inhabited a 1,200 square-foot space for several years on Claremont Avenue.
The Yoga Studio offers over 20 classes a week as well as wellness coaching, counseling and massage therapy.
"If yoga means to ‘yoke mind and body,’ we can’t do it in just a physical, athletic 60-minute class," Bates said. "There was this desire for more; for a lifestyle; for what else there is to bringing together a person.
"For years this was dreamt about -- this space, this business model, this ministry, this mission.”
Bates' family, who have lived in Ashland for at least eight generations, contributed to the business's development.
“This is a very special group of people," Ashland Mayor Matt Miller said. "Ashland will always be able to say that the men and women who brought our downtown back to life were our very own people.
"There weren’t outside developers coming in to do it. It was all of our local people doing it with their own resources. It is Ashland taking care of Ashland and preparing for a bright future."
Bates says she feels now is a very "auspicious" time to open, as she has seen people become more mindful of their health and wellness over the previous year.
Rise Studios Wellness Collective is located at 27 W. Main Street in Ashland.
