ASHLAND -- Ashland resident, Sandra Hedlund Tunnell has been elected chair of the Ohio Public Works Commission.
Ohio Public Works administers the State Capital Improvement Program, the Local Transportation Improvement Program, and the Clean Ohio Conservation Green Space Program, overseeing over $245 million in projects across the state.
Tunnell was appointed to the commission in 2017 by Senate President Larry Obhof, and was elected Chair in 2020.
“It is a pleasure to be a part of an organization that does such crucial work in our state. Ohio Public Works is one of the best-run agencies I have ever worked with, and I am honored to chair their commission,” Tunnell said.
Tunnell is currently the executive director of Ashland Main Street. She has been the president of the Ashland Pubic Library Board of Trustees for nine years, and secretary of the Ashland County Women of Achievement Board for four years. She served two terms as the fourth ward councilman for the city of Ashland. She is a member of the Community Investment Corporation.
Tunnell was named a 2011 Ashland County Women of Achievement, is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Ashland, won the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce Spirit of the Chamber award in 2014, and was awarded the Leadership Ashland Outstanding Alumna award in 2018.
