ASHLAND — Ashland High School athletes can expect the stadium’s turf field to be replaced for the 2020 football season.

The Ashland City Schools’ Board of Education approved a proposal to move forward on the planned renewal project at Monday night’s meeting. Essentially, workers will peel back the old turf and lay down a fresh patch, much like replacing a carpet in a household.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, the update to the stadium is estimated to begin immediately following Ashland High School’s 2019 football season (including any potential playoff games).

Originally purchased and installed 14 years ago, the current turf field was only estimated to last a decade.

The Board of Education also discussed the upcoming school calendar, listing some important dates for community members to remember.

Ashland Middle School Open House will be open to 6th graders on Monday, Aug. 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., 7th graders on Thursday, Aug. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and 8th graders on Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Open House for Ashland High School is scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The first day of school for all students will be on Monday, Aug. 26.

Bryan Lefelhoc of the Board of Education also offered his sympathies to those affected by the recent flooding in Ashland.

“I know that students are dealing with houses that are underwater,” Lefelhoc said. “It’s not just the students, but their family members.

“We can’t do much about it but we sure can think about them. People are coming together when they need to.”

The next Board of Education work session is scheduled for Aug. 12.
