ASHLAND — Returning a book to the Ashland Public Library just got a little easier.

The local library celebrated the addition of a drive-through book drop with a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday, Jan. 11.

After borrowing a book from the library, readers can drive by to return the books. They do not need to get out of their vehicle.

Previously, readers would need walk over to the building to leave books in the drop-off located on the building.

“If you have a project that you think is really important… keep at it,” said the library’s board president Sandra Tunnell.

The addition of the drive-through book drop was considered for a long time, but became a priority amid the pandemic.

“This will make it so much easier (to return books),” Tunnell said.

The large grey-colored book drop is situated between two yellow poles outside the library at 224 Claremont Avenue. The container will be emptied daily.

“In a year where it’s getting a little harder to travel… the good news is, you can pick up a book and go just about anywhere in the world,” said Mayor Matt Miller.
