M.A.D.E. in Ashland call for artist's logo

ASHLAND — Neos Dance Theatre is seeking local professional and nonprofessional artists 18 years and older for a visual arts component of M.A.D.E. in Ashland, a 2020 Community Arts Project focusing on the City of Ashland and Ashland County.

The project will be a comprehensive month long program featuring “pop-up” exhibits by local artists, performances by Neos Dance Theatre, guest musicians, and guest artists. The purpose is to showcase artists living or working in Ashland County and to inspire those who may consider a career in the arts-related industry.

These “pop-up” exhibits will feature individual artists selected by a committee of local professionals. Their artwork will be designated to venues throughout Ashland County. The work may include painting, drawing, mixed media, ceramics, or small sculptures. Local businesses of various descriptions will be hosting the exhibits.

Work must be ready to hang, framed if appropriate, and available from Feb. 21 through March 21, 2020 (*see timeline below). The work must have appropriate identification tags placed on the upper right corner of two dimensional pieces or the bottom of three dimensional works. Identification tags will be supplied to the selected artists.

There are no entry fees and no money awards. The Neos marketing department will produce identifying material for each exhibit, with a short artist bio or artist statement and contact information. Any sale resulting from any display will take place by the customer directly contacting the artist. The host merchant or owner will not be responsible for sales. Work sold may not be picked up until the event is over. All artists are responsible for providing insurance for their own work.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Selected artists will be notified by email or phone by 5 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020 . Selected artists will be notified of the venue to which they will be assigned and will coordinate with the venue merchants/owners regarding installation of work. Work must be delivered in person in Ashland.

The artist is responsible for all materials required to display work, and must be available to assist the merchant/owner with installation. Installation can be as early as Monday, Feb. 17, but not later than Friday, Feb. 21. Work must remain through Sunday, March 22, but must be removed by March 31, or at a date agreed upon with the host merchant or owner.

All selected artists are also required to display one work at Archer Auditorium during the public performance of Neos Dance Theatre and guest musicians. Artists are responsible for all materials required to display work at Archer Auditorium Lobby and must be available to deliver and set up the work on Saturday afternoon, March 21 in between the hours of noon and 4 p.m. and remove the work on Sunday March 22 in between the hours of 10 a.m. to noon. In the case of inclement weather a notification will be sent to all participating artists about an alternate schedule for the Archer Auditorium display.

Selected artists will receive an invitation to the VIP party on March 20 with Neos dancers, guest artists, and M.A.D.E. in Ashland’s support system and sponsors. One complimentary ticket to the performance on March 21, 2020, 7:30 p.m. at Archer Auditorium will also be held at Will Call in the lobby under the artists name.

Artists will be highlighted on social media, local press, on our website neosdancetheatre.org, marketing material, and venue partners.

TIMELINE

Jan. 31: Cut off date for responses to call.

Jan. 31 to Feb. 5: Pop up committee matches artists with venues.

Feb. 5: Notifications to artists and venues.

Feb. 5 through 17: (1 week) artists contact venues and make appointments for installation starting Feb. 17.

Feb. 17 through 21: Installation of art (M-F) The installations are up 1 month prior to event.

March 21 & 22: Pop up participants are obligated (in the Call above) to bring 1 additional piece to Archer Auditorium (at Ashland High School) the morning of March 21, and return to pick it up the morning of March 22.

March 23 through 31: Pop up artists must make an appointment with their venue to take down displays. March 23 is the earliest take down date. Art must be removed no later than March 31. During this week ALL Neos signs will be picked up by a committee member. The “pop up” portion of the event officially ends on March 31.
