MANSFIELD -- Under the direction of Lori Turner, the Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre announces auditions for its production of Kiss Me, Kate on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Renaissance Theatre.
What do you get when you combine a theatre troupe, an egotistical actor, his hard-to-please leading lady, a ne’er-do-well gambling co-star, and mobsters out for revenge? Throw in a number of cases of mistaken identity, comedic routines into the mix and you get "Kiss Me, Kate" - a dazzling Broadway classic that earned the very first Tony award for Best Musical.
The great Cole Porter poured a huge amount of his best music and lyrics into Kiss Me, Kate. The score scintillates with hits like “Another Opening, Another Show," "Always True To You In My Fashion," "From This Moment On" and “Brush Up Your Shakespeare."
A musical version of "The Taming of the Shrew," this show-within-a-show offers parts aplenty, and loads of jazzy musical numbers. Younger performers will also be featured in another Michael Thomas original musical- a roaring 20’s spoof on “Romeo and Juliet.”
Open to young performers 2nd Grade through High School, auditions will be held Sunday, Feb. 9 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. in Theatre 166 (166 Park Avenue West) and Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Renaissance Theatre Ballroom at 138 Park Avenue West in Mansfield, Ohio.
Please prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre song.
Appointments are required and can be scheduled by going to www.rentickets.org/audition.
Performances are Saturday, May 30 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 31 at 3 p.m.
