FLORENCE TOWNSHIP – An Ashland man suffered serious injuries after a two-car crash Tuesday afternoon in Erie County, according to the Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

James R. Buhl, 56, of Ashland, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cleveland Metro Hospital by life flight, the Patrol stated.

Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle, serious injury crash that occurred on State Route 60 at milepost 5 in Erie County, at approximately 12:16 p.m.

Unit #1 was traveling south on State Route 60. Unit #2 was traveling north on State Route 60. Unit #1 traveled left of center, striking Unit #2. Unit #1 continued off the east side of the road and overturned multiple times before coming to final rest. Unit #2 came to rest in the middle of the north lane of State Route 60.

Unit #1: 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Sandusky Towing LLC.

Driver Unit #1: Buhl was the driver of the Silverado. He was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash.

Unit #2: 2014 Nissan Xterra, sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by L & M Towing and Repair.

Driver Unit #2: Lana D. Born, 51, of Wakeman, was the driver of the Xterra. Born was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash. She sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS.

Passenger 1 of Unit #2: Michael A. Garcia, 28, of Wakeman. Garcia was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by mechanical means. Garcia was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cleveland Metro Hospital by life flight.

Passenger 2 of Unit #2: Matthew A. Mair, 31, of Mentor. Mair was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS.

Alcohol and/or drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Vermilion Township Fire & EMS, Florence Township Fire & EMS, Citizens’ Ambulance Services Inc., Metro Life Flight, Sandusky Towing LLC, and L & M Towing and Repair.
