JACKSON TOWNSHIP --  Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a one vehicle roll-over crash involving a car that occurred on U.S. Route 42, just north of Township Road 1080, on Monday at approximately 2:26 p.m.

A 2007 Honda Accord, driven by Laura Shaffer, 59, of Medina, was northbound on U.S. Route 42 when it drove off the right side of the roadway.

The vehicle then struck a ditch and overturned multiple times. The vehicle came to rest on its side in a field. The driver was entrapped inside the vehicle for approximately 33 minutes.

Shaffer had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Jaws of Life. She suffered non- life threatening injuries and was transported to Akron City Hospital by Med Flight.

U.S. Route 42 was reduced to one lane for approximately one hour.

Other agencies on scene were the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and fire departments from Polk and Jackson townships.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors, the patrol said. Shaffer was the only occupant in the vehicle. This crash remains under investigation
