SMITHVILLE — A Barberton man was killed Wednesday afternoon after a one-vehicle crash near Smithville, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Levi S. Everson, 36, Barberton, died after the crash on Apple Creek Road north of Smucker Road near Smithville at approximately 2:55 p.m.

The Patrol stated Everson was driving a 2005 Peterbilt Cement Mixer southbound on Apple Creek Road north of Smucker Road. Everson was viewed by witnesses crossing the centerline then slowly driving off the right side of the roadway. He lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, coming to rest on its side. Everson was trapped inside the vehicle and extricated by squad personnel. The mixer was not loaded with product at the time of the crash.

Everson did not have on his safety belt at the time of the crash, the Patrol reported. This is the sixth fatal traffic crash in Wayne County and the fourth involving no safety belt usage.

Assisting on scene Ohio State Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Unit, the Wayne County Coroner’s Office, units from Central Fire and EMS and North End Garage.

The roadway was closed by the Wayne County Engineer’s Office for approximately three hours.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash and is still under investigation.
