Ohio State Highway Patrol car

BUTLER TOWNSHIP -- A Walhonding man died early Saturday morning after a deer-tractor crash in Butler Township, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Jacob Miller, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:48 a.m., the Patrol stated. The crash took place on State Route 229 (Newcastle Road) near Woods Church Road, in Butler Township, Knox County.

According to the Patrol, Miller was operating a red Jonsered farm tractor westbound on State Route 229. Miller struck a deer, drove off the right side of the road, struck a road sign, and overturned.

Miller was not wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol use is not suspected in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Danville Fire Department.
