ASHLAND - A 40-year-old man is being held at the Ashland County Jail in connection with the shooting death of the man's wife 33-year-old wife at Stoney Creek Apartments.

Ashland Police Department was called to apartment Unit A at 230 Matthews Ave. at 1:49 a.m. Monday after neighbors called 911 to report that someone was firing a gun in the apartment. Bullets were traveling into the neighboring unit, where the caller was located, according to police chief Dave Marcelli.

Officers attempted to enter the shooter's apartment but were unable as the door had been barricaded, Marcelli said.

Police then provided cover and ordered all other occupants of the apartment building to evacuate. After an approximately two-hour standoff, the man in unit A gave himself up to police and was arrested around 3:49 a.m. The man's identity had not yet been released as of late Monday morning, as the man had not been charged.
