CLINTON TOWNSHIP -- A Shreve woman was killed and a Mount Vernon woman hospitalized after a Tuesday morning crash in Wayne County, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Tabatha Dye, 37, of Shreve, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Samantha Penko, 23, of Mount Vernon, was transported by Clinton Township Fire and EMS to Wooster Community Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to the Patrol, the two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 8:35 a.m. in Wayne County on State Route 3, south of the intersection of South Elyria Road in Clinton Township.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2012 Chrysler 200, driven by Dye was traveling north on State Route 3 when she lost control and traveled into the southbound lanes of State Route 3. Dye was then struck on the passenger’s side by a southbound 2016 Chevrolet Trax driven by 23 year old Penko of Mount Vernon, OH. Both vehicles then traveled off the west side of State Route 3, where they came to rest.

Both parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

Assisting at the scene were Clinton Township Fire and EMS, Wooster Township Fire and EMS, Wayne County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

This is the 10th fatal crash in Wayne County in 2020. This crash remains under investigation.
