Ohio State Highway Patrol vehicle

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — A Big Prairie man was killed Friday after a two-vehicle crash on State Route 226 in Wayne County, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Eli A. Miller, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.

The Patrol reported that Miller was operating a John Deere implement pulled by two horses at approximately 7:12 p.m. Lisa J. Mast, 42, of Millersburg, was operating a 2008 Acura RDX on State Route 226 west of Newkirk Road in Clinton Township.

According to the Patrol, Miller was traveling west on State Route 226. Mast was also traveling west on State Route 226 and failed to maintain an assured clear distance, striking Miller in the rear. Mast’s vehicle came to a stop in the westbound lane. After impact, Miller struck the windshield of Mast’s vehicle and was then pulled down the roadway by the horses.

Mast, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was transported to Wooster Community Hospital.

The Patrol stated in a press release that alcohol and/or drugs do appear to be a factor at this time.

Assisting on scene were the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Holmes County Sheriff’s Department, Clinton Township and West Holmes Fire and EMS, Wirt Towing, and the Wayne County Coroner Office.

This is the sixth fatal crash in Wayne County this year.
