WOOSTER -- A Wooster man was killed Wednesday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle while walking along Ohio 3 in Wooster Township. according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol/

The Wooster Post reported that Shawn N. Tucker, 47, of Wooster, was walking westbound in an attempt to cross Ohio 3 when he was struck by a 2012 Dodge 3500 driven by 19-year-old Hunter L. Fields, of Sherrodsville. The Patrol stated Fields was traveling in the left lane and northbound when the incident took place.

Authorities said Tucker was transported by the Wooster Township EMS to Wooster Community Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Fields was wearing a safety belt when the crash occurred and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, the Patrol reported. The crash remains under investigation.

This marks the fifth traffic fatality in Wayne County this year.
