Ohio State Highway Patrol car

DANVILLE -- A 52-year-old Wooster man died in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Ohio 514 in Jefferson Township, according to the  Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

William J. Burkhart was driving a 2017 black Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Ohio 514 near mile post 4. Tara R. Demers, 45, of Fredericktown, was driving a 2015 gray Nissan Altima southbound on the same road at 1:28 p.m.

Burkhart failed to negotiate a curve, overturned, crossed the centerline, and was ejected into the southbound lane, the patrol said.

Demers vehicle struck Mr. Burkhart after he was ejected from the motorcycle. The motorcycle continued off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

Burkhart was transported by AirEvac to Grant Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Demers was not injured.

Burkhart was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors in this crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Eastern Knox EMS, and Eastern Knox Fire Department.

The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.
