ASHLAND -- Ashland Source begins publishing a 13-part series saluting the 2020 class of inductees into the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, Oct. 3.
The information was sent our way courtesy of Lynn Damberger at the Hall of Fame. The 19th Bi-Ennial Banquet and Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. in the John C. Myers Convocation Center.
"We feel very fortunate in Ashland County to have our own Sports Hall of Fame that was started 36 years ago in 1984, under the direction of the late Bill Mills," said Dave Gray, President of the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame.
Since its inception 204 individuals and 22 teams have been inducted.
This year's class of inductees includes; Brent Barr, James H. Deppen, Marcus Fuller, Bud Halada, Jennifer Hendershott-Kinn, Jacob Stephen Howell, Bill Linder, Jeff Miller, Ann Burns Tolliver, Andrea White and Tom R. Williams.
Each of these stories is unique in their own way, from the sports the inductees excelled at to the path their success sparked them to follow. In some instances the individuals told their own story.
It's fascinating to see the background of athletes who excelled as youngsters, and catch up on their equally impressive careers after high school.
Maintaining the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame is an organizational task shared by many, and more help is always appreciated.
"Our organization needs more volunteers to assist in the continued growth of the Hall of Fame," Gray said. "Please consider joining us. We hold our meetings at the Ashland County Historical Society in the Noonan House, which is where our Hall of Fame plaques of Inductees, Trustee Achievement honorees, Great Teams of the Past and the Bill Mills Scholarship Winners are on display.
The public is welcome to the organization's website at www.ashlandcosportshof.org to see what the Hall of Fame is all about, as well as complete bios on all past inductees, honorees, and teams. There are also nomination forms on our website.
"We must have completed nomination forms for any person or team for our nomination committee to consider," Gray said. "The website will explain the procedures and requirements for nominations."
