Ashland Girls Golf Team

The Ashland girls golf team poses with the district championship trophy Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green.

BOWLING GREEN — The Ashland girls are going back to the state tournament and coach Nancy Noble hopes the third time is the charm.

The Arrows shot a sensational 335 at Tuesday’s Division I district tournament at Stone Ridge Golf Club, easily winning the team title and punching their ticket to the state tournament for a third straight year.

Ashland will be joined at Ohio State’s Gray Course by Lexington’s Mandy Ruminski, who carded a 76 and grabbed the second of two individual state berths up for grabs.

Bowling Green’s Macy Hanus was the district medalist with a 72. Ruminski was next, followed by Ashland’s Anna Watson (77), Kira Moore (78) and Klaira Paramore (80). Sarah Anderson (100, T-23rd) and Abby Fossaceca (101, 25th) rounded out the scoring for the Arrows.

Ashland’s team total of 335 was 16 strokes better than runner-up Toledo St. Ursula Academy, which earned the other team bid to the state tournament.

"All in all I was pleased with the way the girls played," Ashland coach Nancy Noble said. "We had two girls in the 70s, one who was right there and our four and five girls are getting better."

"They left a few shots out there. I thought our putting could have been better, but we had a pretty comfortable margin over St. Ursula."

Lexington finished fifth in the team standings with a 396. Alaina Kathrein backed Ruminski with a 90, good for 13th individually. Alissa Wolfe (112) was 30th, followed by Trynity Wolfe (118, 31st) and Hannah Smith (122, 32nd).

“We didn’t quite play up to expectations,” Lady Lex coach Michael Kathrein said. “We had hoped to finish a little better as a team, but it is exciting to have one girl extend the season until the the very last event of the year.”

Ruminski moved to Lexington after leading the Shelby girls to the state tournament each of the past two years.

“She has experience on that golf course, which is good,” Kathrein said.

Ontario’s Brooklynn Adkins shot a 95, good for 17th overall.

The girls Division I state tournament will be Oct. 18 to 19 at Ohio State’s Gray Course.
