ASHLAND — It’s been an eventful couple of weeks for Ashland’s Luke Denbow.

Ashland’s junior sharpshooter scored his 1,000th career point in a 57-42 win over Lexington on Feb. 13, was selected the District 6 Player of the Year in Division I a couple days later and, on Friday, was introduced as the Ohio Cardinal Conference Player of the Year.

“Luke has had a great season,” Ashland coach Jason Hess said after the Arrows dispatched Mansfield Senior last week. “He does so much for us.”

The 6-foot-1 Denbow averages 22.9 points and 6.5 assists a game. He’s also good for 4.8 rebounds and 3.1 steals a night.

Ashland was 17-4 during the regular season and will host Toledo Start in a Division I sectional final Friday.

Denbow’s Ashland teammates, senior Eli White and sophomore Grayson Steury, earned spots on the All-OCC first team. They were joined by Wooster’s Brayden Hamilton, David Nolan and Micah McKee, Mansfield Senior’s Maurice Ware and Mount Vernon’s Blake Meyer.

Second team picks included Mansfield Senior’s Shad Creamer, Madison’s Jayden Jeffries, Lexington’s Baden Forup, Mount Vernon’s Beau Bridges, Wooster’s Drew Dossi and West Holmes’ Blake Morrison and Peyton McKinney.

Honorable mention selections were: Ashland’s Luke Jurjevic and Chase Hunt, Lexington’s Hudson Moore and Jack Depperschmidt, Madison’s Isaac Brooks and Luke Pruitt, Mansfield Senior’s D’Angelo Chapman and Amil Upchurch, Mount Vernon’s Dayne Burgess and Hudson Rohler, West Holmes’ Garrett Eastep and Payton Miller, and Wooster’s Owen Roach and Jack Williams.

West Holmes’ Don Hall was selected the Coach of the Year.
