Sloan Kiser

Madison sophomore Sloan Kiser was an All-Ohio second team pick in Division II.

MADISON TOWNSHIP — Tim Niswander isn’t sure where Sloan Kiser is most valuable, but Madison’s veteran coach is just glad he has her on the roster for one more year.

A junior, Kiser was selected the Richland Source Pitcher of the Year after helping the Rams reach the district tournament for a second straight year.

And for a second straight year, Kiser landed a spot on the All-Ohio second team in Division II.

Just don’t ask Niswander to pigeonhole the hard-throwing Kiser.

“Sloan is our No. 3 hitter and our workhorse on the mound,” Niswander said. “We go as she goes. When she’s on, she can dominate.”

An Ohio Cardinal Conference first team selection, Kiser had 11 wins in the circle this spring. She struck out 127 and boasted an earned run average of 2.25. At the plate, she batted .457 with 20 runs batted in and 25 runs scored.

“She has multiple quality pitches,” Niswander said, “and she can throw them for strikes in multiple areas of the strike zone.”

Kiser is the anchor of a four-player All-Richland Source pitching staff that includes a fellow All-Ohioan, a career wins leader and a blossoming star.

Crestview sophomore Kylie Ringler was an All-Ohio honorable mention selection in Division III after leading the Cougars to their third straight Firelands Conference championship. The FC Pitcher of the Year, Ringler was 17-2 with a whopping 226 strikeouts and a 0.74 earned run average.

Galion’s Madelyn Thomas led the Tigers to the regional tournament for a second straight year. The junior picked up her 51st career win in a regional semifinal victory over Sherwood Fairview, establishing a new Galion career mark. Th0mas was 21-4 with 181 strikeouts and a 2.51 ERA.

Hillsdale junior Olivia Betson took over for 2018 Richland Source Pitcher of the Year Sydney Long and the Falcons never missed a beat. Betson pitched Hillsdale to its area-best 16th state tournament this spring before falling to Mechanicsburg in the state semifinals. Betson was a Wayne County Athletic League second team selection.
