ASHLAND — At the Ashland County Park District’s (ACPD) River Walk Natural Area, hikers can travel along a trail that’s positioned only a few feet from the Jerome Fork of the Mohican River.

Located just south of Ashland at 596 Township Road 1500, this 11-acre park is ideal for hiking, kayaking and canoeing.

“It’s a real nice trail there, and one of the most unique because you are hiking directly along the Jerome Fork,” said ACPD director Stephanie Featheringill. “It’s a nice short loop, and it’s a bit different than any of the other parks.”

The park features a three-quarter mile trails and more than 1500 feet of river access.

If kayaking or canoeing, it’s possible to start at the River Walk Natural Area and end at nearby Hopkins Landing.

Large buckeye and walnut trees, as well as spring wildflowers, can be seen at the River Walk Natural Area.

The park is also home to a variety of waterfowl, turtles, river otters and deer.
