OLIVESBURG — Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award Winners Crestview Middle School students Dawson Stepp and Morgan Welch were selected by the staff to receive the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s prestigious Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.

The Award, named for two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, is presented each year to two eighth-grade students, one male and one female, who have been outstanding in their efforts to promote sportsmanship in their school and community. The award is designed to promote sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.

This year’s honorees were presented their awards at the annual academic award ceremonies held at the Middle School on May 30.

Morgan is the daughter of Mike and Misty Welch. She ran cross country and Track her 7th and 8th grade year. Her other interest include gymnastics and dance.

“This award means a lot to me. I feel very appreciative and thankful to have been recognized by my teachers and coaches,” Morgan said. “I would like to thank the Lord for blessing me and giving me such a life. Secondly, I would like to thank my family and friends for always supporting me and working with my busy schedule.

“Lastly, I owe a huge thanks to my coaches and teachers for also supporting me in everything that I do and for helping to shape me into who I am as a student, athlete and human being-Thank you everyone!’

Dawson is the son of Jamie Stepp and Lori Musick. He participated in football since the 5th grade. He also plays baseball and guitar.

“I am super happy and thankful to have this award and am also very surprised. Sportsmanship to me means being kind and helpful to not only your team but also everyone else on the other teams. I also try to be a good role model,” Dawson said. “I would like to thank my parents and my coaches and eveyrone else who helped and cheered me on.”

In addition, the Clayton Blust Award is presented to one male and one female 8th grader that displays leadership, honor and strong character in and out of the classroom. These students are of exemplary quality and are positive role models for the younger students in the school. This award is named after an outstanding educator that taught at Crestview for many years.

This year’s recipients at the awards ceremony on May 30 were 8th graders Tyler Wheeler and Bridget Bays.

Bridgett is the daughter of Erica and Jeremy Bays. Her activities include: Academic Challenge-4 years, Soccer-10 years, Basketball-4 years, Student Council-1 year, Track-1 year, Cross Country-2 years, Sim City-1 year, Softball-4 years

“I am really honored to have this award and am grateful for everyone and everything that has brought me to this point,” Bridgette said. “I really try to leave my mark by leaving a good impression and trying my best to guide and help people.”

Bridgette would like to thank her teachers, friends and family members and anyone who has helped me in my journey in life.

Tyler Wheeler is the son of Allen and Jill Wheeler. He has participated in Academic Challenge for 5 years and Video Production for 2 years.

“This award mean a lot and shows me that my achievements as a student has paid off,” Tyler said. “I have tried to share my knowledge and help others which has been how I tried to be a good role model and leader. I would like to thank my family and teachers for supportng me my entire way through my years.”
