ASHLAND — Ashland County has two levy renewals for voters to approve on the ballot this fall. Both provide continued funding for the Dale-Roy School.
The Dale-Roy School serves children and adults with developmental disabilities. It accepts students from all over the county based on referrals from students’ home school districts.
Its two levies fell on the ballot the same year this election cycle. Typically, both levies don’t come up for renewals in the same year.
Combined, the two levies make up around 61% of the school’s operating budget. The total operating budget is $7.5 million, according to a levy renewal fact sheet from the Ashland County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Since both levies are renewals, they would not be new taxes for Ashland County residents.
The levies
The first of those levies is a 2.1 mill renewal that lasts for a three-year period. That renewal would generate $2,709,000 annually.
That comes out to a rate of $59 for every $100,000 of appraised value.
The 2.1 mill renewal helps the school run its programs and facilities.
The county has a second Dale-Roy School levy up for renewal this year too. That second levy is a 1.5 mill renewal that would generate $1,937,000 annually for the school. It lasts for a five-year period.
It comes out to a rate of $43 for every $100,000 of appraised value.
The 1.5 mill renewal allows the school to run programs and services.
What does Dale-Roy School offer?
Dale-Roy School has a school age program that provides services and supports based on student needs, according to the school’s website. That includes occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, adaptive physical education and more.
It also has a food program, full-time nurse and behavioral support offered as part of the school age program.
Dale-Roy School also provides transition planning services for its students, which focus on independent living and employment.Â
