Voting for Sheriff of Ashland County is an easy decision.

Recent endorsements by Sheriff E. Wayne Risner, Sheriff Larry Overholt (Ret.), Chief Deputy Carl Richert (Ret.) and a host of other law enforcement and community leaders make it easy to decide.

They have endorsed Kurt Schneider for the job.

As you know, Kurt’s opponent in the race cites his main qualification to be his leadership experience with the Ohio Highway Patrol. However, to lead you must first know the business.

The main duties of the Patrol are traffic-law enforcement, traffic-flow control, and handling traffic accidents.

The Sheriff’s Office handles these duties and a lot more. So Kurt’s opponent has some learning to do. He probably should have spent some time as an actual deputy.

However, he has not done that and though he references being a “special deputy” for the Sheriff’s Office he has never worked in the department.

As Sheriff, he would need to know what his deputies face while on a job and how to evaluate the job they do.

Kurt Schneider knows these things. Kurt has 13 years experience in the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.

He worked road patrol, did jail duty, worked elite units such as the bomb squad, and was a K-9 handler.

He knows the laws deputies deal with on the job. He is a decorated detective and investigator and solved violent crimes that put criminals in jail.

He knows Ashland County the way deputies get to know it. Moreover, he has watched Sheriff Risner run a successful Sheriff’s Office.

Kurt has work experiences outside the ACSO which are great pluses. Kurt worked as a paramedic, a firefighter, and in the Fire Prevention & Arson Bureau in Mansfield for eight Years.

He served as an Arson and Explosives investigator in the State Fire Marshal Office for four years. He served nine years as a peace officer in Cardington.

Along the way he earned a list of certifications in the areas of Fire, Explosion, and Hazardous Materials and has hours and hours of continuing education.

Let’s buck the national trend and vote for the more qualified candidate:

Kurt Schneider.

Thank you,

Dianne Nelson
