ASHLAND — The city of Ashland will begin picking up certain items along curbs starting April 1 for its annual Spring Cleanup.

The service has been broken into four designated areas through April 26.

It’s free, but residents will be charged for having more than three cubic yards and placing items ahead and after the scheduled time slot, according to an announcement issued earlier this month.

“It’s time to join your neighbors in cleaning out your homes, garages and yards,” reads the announcement. “Unwanted items will be picked up during our annual event.”

The city said Spring Cleanup items should be separated by category: metals, cardboard, furniture, recyclables. Larger items such as construction materials and carpeting should be broken down to lengths no longer than four feet.

Containers residents don’t want to be trashed should be marked as such, and furniture should be wrapped in plastic.

“Place normal, weekly trash and recyclable items separate from Spring Cleanup items,” reads the announcement.

Additional fees will appear on utility bills, the city stated.
