DAYTON — Wade Bolin completed the sweep.
Crestview’s senior thrower, Bolin won state championships in both the shot put and discus during the first day of the Division III state track championships on Thursday at Welcome Stadium.
Bolin’s efforts vaulted the Cougars to the top of the leaderboard after the opening day. Crestview has 23 points, nine ahead of second-place Defiance Tinora (14). Cincinnati Christian (11) is in third.
After opening the discus competition with a throw of 182-feet, 6-inches, Bolin unleashed a personal-record heave of 187-10 on his second attempt. It was more than 10 feet further than runner-up Jack Knapke of Marion Local (177-1).
In the shot, Bolin uncorked a throw of 58-3 on his third attempt. Wayne Trace’s Luke Stouffer was second with a throw of 57-3.
Crestview’s other points came from the 4×800 relay team of Cooper Brockway, Bransen Hider, Everett Smith and Logan Friges. The quartet took sixth in 8:05.47 in the only running final on opening day.
Buckeye Central’s Corbin Bloomfield captured a silver medal in the long jump. The junior had a PR leap of 22-6.75 on his first attempt of the day.
Colonel Crawford’s Gabby Roston and Lucas’ Rebekah Case both reached the podium in the pole vault. Roston was fifth (11-10) and Case was seventh (11-6). Hillsdale’s Adalyn Tipton (10-0) finished 15th.
Plymouth’s Layne Bushey tied for 12th in the high jump with a leap of 6-0. East Knox’s Isabella Grennell tied for 13th in the shot put (35-7.75) and Colonel Crawford’s Niyah Shipman was 14th in the high jump (5-0).
Colonel Crawford’s girls 4×800 team of Cecelia Chase, Brynn Bruner, Olivia Hardy and Rylinn Edgington was 11th in 9:45.97.
Colonel Crawford’s Trevor Vogt turned in the top qualifying time in the 300 hurdles (38.47) and teamed with Brady Hill, Jacob Cochran and John Degray to finish sixth in the prelims of the 4×200 relay.
Colonel Crawford’s girls 4×100 team of Ayla McKibben, Mira Holt, Roston and Hailey Slagle qualified for the finals with a sixth-place finish of 50.15 in the prelims. Crawford’s girls 4×400 relay team of Olivia Hardy, Lynae McKibben, Roston and Holt advanced after finishing eighth in 4:05.05.
Danville’s Kelsey Hackman finished 14th in the 100 hurdles (16.22), while East Knox’s Hayden Baker was 18th in the 200 (22.91).
The Colonel Crawford girls 4×200 team of Hardy, Lynae McKibben Ayla Mckibben and Holt was 16th in 1:47.47. The CC boys 4×100 crew of Ryan McMichael, Jacob Cochran, Lucas Foy and Vogt was 12th in 44.03, while the 4×400 quartet of Hill, Vogt, Cochran and Adam Scott was 11th in 3:29.43.
Crestview’s boys 4×400 crew of Ayden Reymer, Smith, Brockway and Friges was 13th in 3:31.02.
