Philip Vermillion, 75

Philip Vermillion, 75 of Ashland, passed away peacefully at The Wasson center at Brethren Care on Tuesday evening, May 28th 2024.

He was born to the late Dan and Francette (nee Ageg) Vermillion on June 27th 1948, in Ashland Ohio.

Philip proudly served in the United States Navy and went on to have a career in police work for over 30 years. He thoroughly enjoyed being a policeman, but most of all he loved and respected all his co-workers. Philip proudly served as a supervisor on the K-9 unit where he was able to show his love for German Shepherds.

He married the former Gracie (Roseborough) on June 24th 1977, and the two would’ve celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary next month.

Both he and Gracie were long time members of Trinity Lutheran Church and Philip could often be seen working the sound system for the chapel. They both were heavily involved in the Saturday Folk Services at Trinity as well. He also volunteered for habitat work, both attached to and outside of his church.

After his retirement from policework, Philip could be found in his workshop, listening to the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Miami Vice, and Bob Marley, and working on his craft, carpentry, and woodwork. Apart from his craft, he enjoyed western and historically accurate films and competing in firearm shooting contests. He was also a member of the Harry Higgins post 88 of the American Legion. Philip also had a love for the New York Yankees baseball team and being a lifelong Notre Dame fan.

Philip is survived by his loving wife, Gracie Vermillion; daughter, Tina (Brian) Burns; Two daughter in laws, LouAnn Missler and April Vermillion; a son, Dan Vermillion; five grandchildren, Bradley (Michelle) Blank, Nathan (Allison) Blank, Levi (Ashley) Blank, Zach Vermillion, and Caleb (Tecca) Burns; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Philip is preceded in death by a son, Charles “Todd” Blank who passed away in 2023.

A Memorial service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. and a visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Kevin McClain presiding. Philip will receive full military honors in recognition of his service to our country by the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard.
