JEROMESVILLE — Hillsdale’s Owen Hoffman and Jack Fickes capped their high school careers in style.

Both Hoffman and Fickes were selected to the All-Wayne County Athletic League first team after helping the Falcons reach the Division IV state semifinals.

A third baseman, Hoffman batted a team-high .414 with two home runs and 27 runs batted in. He added four doubles and scored 18 runs.

Fickes was Hillsdale’s top pitcher and most productive hitter. He was 7-4 with a 2.79 earned run average and 52 strikeouts in 60.1 innings of work. At the plate, he batted .396 with a team-high 33 RBIs, 10 doubles and 36 runs scored.

Norwayne’s Ashton Snyder was selected the WCAL Most Valuable Player after leading the Bobcats to an outright league title. Norwayne was 13-1 in league play, a game ahead of Division III state semifinalist Waynedale (12-2). Norwayne’s Joey Gilmore was selected the Coach of the Year.

In addition to Hoffman and Fickes, Norwayne’s Mike Steingass, Logan Dichler and Lucas Dudte were all first-team picks. They were joined on the first team by Waynedale’s Otto Solorzan, Cameron Miller and Shane Coblentz, Dalton’s Will Carmichael and Seth Wyckoff, Smithville’s Jace Leach and Chippewa’s Corbin Marshall.

Hillsdale’s Brock Bower and Northwestern’s Brandon Barnette were selected to the second team. Other second-teamers were Rittman’s Spencer Welch and T.J. Johnson, Dalton’s Brady Hignight and Talan Greegor, Chippewa’s Grant Johnson and Anderson Hatfield, Norwayne’s Dylan Tanner and Beau Polen, Waynedale’s Tate Venables and Smithville’s Bryce Butcher.
