ASHLAND — As good as Luke Bryant was on the mound, it was hard to overlook his production at the plate this spring.

The Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association noticed.

Ashland’s senior ace was selected to the All-Ohio second team in Division I as a utility player when the all-state teams were announced earlier this month.

The Ohio University-bound Bryant was 5-2 with a 1.54 earned run average and 76 strikeouts in 50 innings of work this spring. Remarkably, he had six complete games among his eight starts.

As a hitter, Bryant batted .403 with five doubles, two triples and 28 runs batted in, leading Ashland to its first sectional title since 2012. The Arrows (18-7) lost to eventual state semifinalist Perrysburg in the district semifinals.

Like Bryant, Crestview’s Jarek Ringler was invaluable on the mound and at the plate. And like Bryant, Ringler was selected to the All-Ohio team as a utility player. The senior was an honorable-mention selection in Division III.

Ringler batted .481 with 12 RBIs. He stole 25 bases and scored 36 runs. On the mound he was 7-1 with a 1.15 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched.

Brennan Fulk, Ringler’s Crestview teammate, was an honorable-mention pick as a catcher. The senior batted .472 with 19 RBIs, 18 stolen bases and 23 runs scored.

Hillsdale’s Jack Fickes earned a spot on the Division IV first team as an outfielder after helping the Falcons reach the state semifinals. The senior batted .396 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 33 RBIs. He stole 14 bases and scored 36 runs.
