ASHLAND — Ashland’s Big Splash summer pool party made a comeback Friday afternoon as families made their way to Brookside Pool for a day of fun in the sun.

The annual event began in 2019. Back then, Ashland Mayor Matt Miller billed the event as an antidote to the challenge of not having enough activities in Ashland.

This year’s attractions included an inflatable water slide, pool games, rubber ducks, music and dancing. Attendees could purchase cotton candy, snacks from the pool, snow cones or Chick-fil-A.

Every hour on the hour, Miller gathered all the attendees to participate in an activity.

Those opportunities included having everyone jump into the pool at once to make a “big splash,” and line dancing. Names were also drawn throughout the day for children to go into large inflatable balls that floated on the pool.

Children, teens and families were decked out in swimsuits, tropical attire and leis. Miller and State Rep. Melanie Miller handed out the leis throughout the day.

The event went from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Those aged 17 and under attended for free, while admission was $2 for those 18+.
