LOUDONVILLE — Finn Butler, a Loudonville second grader, has earned $1,000 or more two years in a row at the Loudonville Street Fair’s annual pie auction and cake contest.
He said his pie last year captured $1,000. This year, Butler beat his own record — his apple pie sold for $1,600.
“It’s really exciting, I’m mind blown right now,” Butler said.
Tony Shoemaker, Butler’s grandpa, purchased his pie. He did so thanks to the help of a group of people and businesses known as “Finn’s Friends of the Fair.”
Butler makes the pie each year with his Great-Grandma Heinberger.
“We put in cinnamon, brown sugar, sugar…” Butler said. “I love meeting and spending time with her.”
He said his great-grandma also makes pumpkin pie, peach pie and pecan pies. But Butler likes making the apple pie best.
Shoemaker, the pie’s buyer, said he’s tasted those pies before. He knew Butler and his grandma made it earlier in the day, so it was fresh.
Shoemaker added he liked that the proceeds from the auction all went back to the fair board to put the fair on again next year.
Butler’s pie netted the highest bid this year. The auction brought in $5,845 total.
