ASHLAND — Merry Christmas Ashland!

Here’s hoping each of you is spending the day with family and reaping the rewards of being on Santa’s “nice” list.

At Ashland Source, we’ve spent the past month telling stories about how this county is celebrating the holiday. In honor of Christmas day, here’s a few of our favorites.

Our very own Guinness World Record

The city of Ashland’s holiday display at Freer Field now owns a world record. The Candy Cane Trail this year features 776 illuminated metal structures/sculptures — an improvement from last year’s display by nearly 500 more light-up trees.

If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s worth catching. The trail will remain lit until Jan. 5.

Have a cup of cheer

Kash Co. Pourhouse opened just last year, but already the Main Street bar is making its mark.

It became Ashland’s very own Christmas bar this holiday season, as owners Hollie Chance and Aaron Stitzel spent months collecting lights and decor. They spent days stringing up lights all across the bar to create a magical effect.

Chance and Stitzel said the lights will stay up until the New Year, so there’s still some time to grab a cup of cheer and enjoy the decorations there, too.

A Vintage Christmas

Ashland Main Street celebrated Christmas old-school this year, with its annual parade themed “A Vintage Christmas.”

The parade attracted around 80 floats, and concluded with a fireworks show hosted by the city of Ashland.

A christmas tradition

A feel-good feature

Tyler Slaven and his sister, Monica Heath, have spent 10 years donating toys to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

In those 10 years, they’ve distributed more than 100,000 toys.

“In a world with so much negativity, we feel that together we can make a difference if we can all work on doing something positive,” Heath said. “Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that can make a difference in someone’s life and that is something special.”
