CENTERBURG — Bennett Hill made history this fall.
Hill, a Centerburg senior and North Central Ohio Boys Golfer of the Year, became his school’s first state qualifier in 14 years. He tied for 11th at the Division III state tournament at NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury, shooting a two-day 152.
“He owns five of the six (Centerburg) individual records and is on almost all of the team records and a couple of them are borderline untouchable,” Centerburg coach Nathan Altizer said.
“If we could put up a plaque and name something after him, we should probably do it after the four-year career he’s had.”
Hill was the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference Player of the Year and claimed sectional and district medalist honors. He is the centerpiece of the five-man All-NCO team. Here’s a look at the rest of the squad:
Jackson Durchik, Lexington
Just a sophomore, Durchik carded a 74 to claim medalist honors at the Division I Sycamore Springs sectional. He tied for 14th at the Shawnee district. Durchik was the medalist at the first of three Ohio Cardinal Conference tournaments and was an OCC first-teamer.
Nate McMullen, Galion
A senior, McMullen was the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He and tied for seventh at the Division II sectional at Woussickett and tied for 20th at the Maumee Bay district.
Reed Emmons, Ashland
A junior, Emmons was the Ohio Cardinal Conference Player of the Year runner-up. He tied for third at the Division I Sycamore Springs sectional with a 78 and tied for 16th at Shawnee.
Judah Layton, Loudonville
A senior, Layton will golf collegiately at Ohio Christian University in Circleville. He finished third at the Division III Pleasant Valley sectional and was 19th at the Tannenhouf district.
