ASHLAND — Spring has sprung, and, for the city of Ashland, that means spring cleaning.
The city’s sanitation department will begin picking up household waste items — microwaves, carpeting, furniture — left on residents’ curbs on March 31. Crews will continue in phases through April 25.

The city asks residents to leave items to be picked up by Monday of the scheduled week. Setting things out more than a week could lead to additional charges on utility bills.
Items accepted include:
- Microwaves
- Dishwashers
- Washers and dryers
- Furnaces
- Hot water heaters
- Dry, lid-free paint cans
- Carpet (cut in four-foot sections)
- Wrapped furniture and mattresses
- Drained engines and transmissions
- Drained mowers
- Assorted items
The city will not pick up:
- Tires
- Gas tanks
- Chemicals
- Wet paint
- Unknown liquids
- Rocks or concrete materials
- Steel drums
- Asbestos or materials containing asbestos
The Ashland County Solid Waste District hosts events for household hazardous waste products, farm tires and e-waste. It also sponsors year-round programs for other products, such as smaller tires and units containing refrigerants. More information can be found here.
