ASHLAND — Ashland City Schools’ board of education voted to file three tax valuation complaints Monday night against properties owned by Mechanics Bank, Legacy Core Line, LLC and ExchangeRight Net Leased Portfolio 63 DST.

That means the district disagrees with the value the auditor assessed those properties in property taxes for 2024.

Kyle Klingler, the district treasurer, explained those buildings were sold last year.

In order for the board to file a complaint, the sale price must exceed “the true value of the Property appearing on the tax list for that year by both 10% and $554,000,” according to the complaints the board approved.

Klingler said all three properties met those criteria.

Cindy Funk, the county auditor, said the complaints must be filed with the county Board of Revisions by March 31. The Board of Revisions consists of Funk, the county auditor, the county treasurer and one of the county commissioners.

Once those complaints are filed, the county auditor’s office sends out appraisers to look at the properties. Then, the Board of Revisions meets and gets the final say on the valuation.

That meeting will be public, but there is no date set for it yet, Funk said.

She also added the district has filed tax valuation complaints before. In the past, Funk said the district’s attorney used to file on their behalf.

But, she said due to changes in the Ohio Revised Code, the school board now has to approve the complaints.
