NEW LONDON — In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ 120th birthday and the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day on March 2, Firelands Electric Cooperative sponsored a “Watt are you reading?” contest for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

More than 40 children living in homes receiving electric power from the co-op submitted entries, which included a list of their favorite books and authors.

Those who entered are students at seven area school districts, as well as homeschooled.

Three entries were randomly selected to win prize packages filled with age-appropriate books about electricity and a custom co-op bucket truck pillow.

Ivan Willis, son of Mike and Samantha Willis, is a kindergartener at New London Local Schools. His favorite book is If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, Don’t! by Elise Parsley.

Fifth-grader Jensen Gregory attends New London Local Schools and is the son of Brennan and Nicole Gregory. His favorite book is Charlie Brown: All Tied Up by Charles Schulz.
