ASHLAND — There’s a logjam at the top of the Ohio Cardinal Conference standings.
Four of the seven OCC teams are within a game of each other in the early going.
Lexington (3-0) and New Philadelphia (2-0) share the driver’s seat, while Wooster (3-1) and Ashland (2-1) are knocking on the door. West Holmes (3-2) threw its hat in the ring Tuesday with an upset of the Generals.
The Arrows are 7-2 overall after Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Dover, which will enter the OCC next year. Tyler Holt got the win, surrendering just one hit and striking out eight in five innings. Alex Grissinger worked the final two innings for the save.
Michael Franz scored the only run. The speedy centerfielder is batting .435 with 12 runs scored.
The Lake Erie-bound Grissinger is batting .304 with nine runs batted in and seven stolen bases. Holt, who is headed to Clarion, is 2-1 with a 2.56 earned run average and 21 strikeouts in 13.2 innings of work.
The Arrows return to OCC play next week with a home-and-home with New Philadelphia on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Firelands Conference
The chase for the Firelands Conference crown is every bit as jumbled as the OCC race.
St. Paul and South Central are tied atop the standings at 3-1. The Trojans swept Crestview this week, winning both games in extra innings. The Flyers split with Western Reserve.
Knox Morrow Athletic Conference
Loudonville’s first trip through the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference has been bumpy. The Redbirds are 2-4 in the KMAC going into Wednesday’s game at Centerburg.
The Trojans and East Knox are 5-1, while Cardington is 5-0.
Judah Layton is the KMAC’s leading hitter. He’s batting .650 with five doubles and seven RBIs.
Wayne County Athletic League
Waynedale has opened a two-game lead in the Wayne County Athletic League chase. The Golden Bears are 4-0.
Hillsdale is one of four teams with two WCAL losses. The Falcons split with Northwestern and Chippewa and have a home-and-home with Smithville on Wednesday and Thursday.
