ONTARIO — A beautiful spring day was the perfect backdrop for an excellent high school baseball game late Friday afternoon.

So, Ontario and Hillsdale answered the challenge with just such a contest.

Landon Sowards belted a one-out double in the bottom of the eighth, driving in Jaren Holden with the winning run as the Warriors nipped the Falcons 10-9 at Ontario.

Holden was 4-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored for the Warriors (5-5). Dane Kearns had two hits, including a double, and knocked in a run.

Colton Mosher led Hillsdale with a pair of hits. The Falcons (5-4) bunched seven hits and seven Ontario errors. Hillsdale trailed 9-1 after three innings but scored four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the seventh to force extra innings.

James Mahon started and went the first 3.2 inning for Ontario, striking out five. Ian Rachel picked up the win, working the final 1.2 innings. He allowed one hit.
