ASHLAND — Graduation season has officially kicked off as the Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center bid adieu to its seniors, who received their portfolios Friday morning.

Instructors and counselors handed out scholarships and awards during the ceremony, honoring outstanding technical achievers in each of the school’s programs.

Rick Brindley, the school’s outgoing principal, offered comments at the commencement, telling the class of 2025 they were special to him.

“Over the past seven years here at the Career Center, I’ve watched class after class walk across the stage with pride and preparation to take on the world,” Brindley said. “And while each class has been special in its own way, your class has been even more special.

“It’s even more special to me by all your accomplishments that you have made, but not only that. You hold a unique place to my heart where we are both closing a chapter together.”

Brindley is retiring. He’ll be replaced by Scott Musser at the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year, according to Rodney Cheyney, the superintendent of the career center. Musser currently serves as the principal of Wooster High School.

Keaton Murphy was recognized as the career center’s outstanding senior this year. Rachel Bixler earned accolades as the support staff member of the year. Shannon Donelson, who runs the early childhood development program, was the educator of the year.
