LEAVITTSBURG — Hillsdale pitcher Kael Lewis threw a complete-game six-hitter and drove in a pair of runs as the seventh-seeded Falcons knocked off No. 5 LaBrae in a Division VI district semifinal game Thursday afternoon.
Hillsdale (15-9) will play second-seeded Kirtland for a district title at 2 p.m. Friday at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills. Kirtland advanced with a run rule-shortened, 10-0 win over Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas.
A sophomore right-hander, Lewis walked four and struck out one. He helped his own cause with a run-scoring single in the first and an RBI-triple in the fifth. Hillsdale scored three in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
Brock Bower had two hits and scored a pair of runs. Brady Heller, Hunter Hickey and Knox Lewis each had a double. Colton Mosher singled and knocked in a run.
Jacob Simpson led LaBrea with two hits. He drove in the Vikings’ only run in the sixth.
