ASHLAND — Another piece of land out at the city’s industrial park is being eyed for development.

Ashland and Crown Jewlz, a stationary and children’s book printing company, has signed a purchase agreement for 18 acres of land across the street from SJE Rhombus.

The women-owned company has agreed to purchase the property for $180,000, but development plans have not been disclosed publicly.

Site plans and permits have not been filed with the city’s engineering office. A representative from Crown Jewlz was not immediately available to comment.

Ashland Mayor Matt Miller announced the agreement during a city council meeting on June 3.

“It’s the lot at the corner of Ford and Wells roads, right next to where Amazon is building,” Miller said.

Crown Jewlz has operated out of a building along Second Street since June 2021, when the building sold. Prior to Crown Jewlz’s occupancy, the Ashland Times-Gazette operated there.

Developments on industrial park land

The potential sale represents the latest in recent developments at the city-owned industrial park.

In May, city council agreed to a 75% property tax abatement over the next decade to AIP LLC, a company owned by Scott Conery. The local investor has already begun construction on a $12.2 million warehouse on the 11-acre property behind SJE Rhombus and Barbasol.

Amazon is currently building a warehouse on a $22 million, 78,558 square-foot “last-mile delivery station” on 22 acres of industrial park land. The online retail giant purchased the property from the city in December.

The city also recently annexed 5.4 acres of land so the industrial park along U.S. Route 250 can grow for future development.
