HAYESVILLE — Officials on Thursday lifted a boil advisory that had been in place since the day prior.

Residents were urged to boil their drinking water before consuming and using it after officials learned “disease-causing organisms” may have entered the supply from the Hayesville Water Treatment Facility.

Earlier Wednesday, residents were urged to conserve water. But the Ohio EPA mandated a boil advisory, said EMA director Anne Strouth.

“They figured out it was an airlock in the pump,” said Ashland County commissioner Jim Justice, who lives in the village. He said the airlock in the pump led to low water levels.

“I don’t know how or why it happened,” he said.

Justice did not offer additional details.
