Hello, Ashland! My name is Taylor Henninger, the new general assignment reporter at Ashland Source.
My reporting will focus on education, town and village governments and everything in between.
I am happy to call Ashland Source my first post-graduation job as a reporter.
I had no idea I would be a journalist until my freshman year of college at Ohio University, where I graduated from in May. I did not know where my career was taking me, but I always loved writing and striving to become a better writer.
So, I took an introduction to journalism class because I always found myself questioning why things were happening in the world. By the end of freshman year, I changed my major to journalism and never looked back.
In my classes, I grew a reporting niche in environmental research and sustainability in Athens County, Ohio. I published my class projects and independent reporting pursuits in the Athens County Independent, a digital news organization similar to the Source.
I grew up in Milford, Ohio, which is roughly 25 minutes from Cincinnati, Ohio – go Bengals!
Besides a six-week communications internship in Washington, D.C., at the Appalachian Regional Commission, Ohio has always been my home and I am excited to now call a new town home.
When I am not wearing my reporter hat, I love spending time outdoors and I am always searching for new parks, nature preserves, trails and hikes to explore.
I am also an avid thrifter and garage sale attendee. So on weekend mornings, you can find me combing through local thrift shops and consignment stores. And on weekend nights, I love sitting down in a restaurant or venue to listen to some local bands.
If you have any recommendations for bands to check out, nature spots to explore or great food spots, shoot me an email at taylor@richlandsource.
