ASHLAND — The 56th concert season for the Ashland Symphony Orchestra opens on Saturday, Sept. 13 with “Boarding Pass.”

Grammy Award winning Music Director and Conductor Michael Repper will conduct Toussaint L’Ouverture and Suite from “24 Negro Melodies” by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.

The concert concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Concerto Violoncello, op.104, B minor featuring cellist Amit Peled.

This event takes place in the Archer Auditorium at Ashland High School, 1440 King Road, with the preconcert talk at 6:50 p.m. and the performance at 7:30 p.m.

Repper has created new editions of three of Coleridge-Taylor’s pieces, two of which will be performed by the ASO.

“This project started for me with equal parts love for Coleridge-Taylor’s music, and frustration that only a small percentage of his music exists in a published form suitable for performance,” Repper said.

“In creating these editions, I hope more listeners and performers will discover how wonderful this music is.”

The 2025 year marks the 150th anniversary of Coleridge-Taylor’s birth.

Praised by The Strad magazine and The New York Times, internationally renowned cellist Amit Peled is acclaimed as one of the most exciting and virtuosic instrumentalists on the concert stage today.

Having performed in many of the world’s most prestigious venues, the ASO is excited to bring him to Ashland.
