ASHLAND — The city grew by another 67.5 acres on Tuesday with the addition of farmland along Baney Road in what’s historically been Milton Township.

Ashland City Council unanimously approved the annexation on Tuesday.

The move marks the final step in a process that began back in April, when council agreed to general and winter-related maintenance on South Baney Road between County Roads 1356 and 1426, a length of 2,214 feet.

In June, the city agreed to a revenue sharing deal with the township. For 25 years, the city will pay Milton Township $3,000 for the land, according to the document outlining the deal.

The agreement also allows the city to offer tax abatements, a tool that  has wielded to attract housing developments such as the 192-apartment complex dubbed “The District” on George Road and Arrows Landing along Mifflin Avenue.

The property owner, Ashway LLC, hopes to put a housing development on the farmland located west of South Baney Road, but details of the project have not been made public and efforts to reach the individual behind the project have failed.

County real estate records show that the majority of the land there, 64.9 acres, are tillable. The property also houses a cell tower.
