ASHLAND — Ashland City Schools received an overall score of four out of five stars — an improvement from the 3.5 for the 2023-24 school year report card.

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce released the state’s school report cards Monday, which assess school districts’ achievements from the 2024-25 school year.

“All the credit is due to our wonderful staff,” Superintendent Steve Paramore said.

The 2025 scores include a new rating for the college, career, workforce, and military readiness component. It measures how well the graduating class is prepared to go on to postsecondary education, enter the workforce or join the armed forces, according to Ohio Department of Education and Workforce press release.

The other five categories are achievement, progress, gap closing, graduation and early literacy. The achievement, progress and gap closing scores rely on standardized test scores

The overall district score is broken down as:

  • Achievement: Four stars
  • Progress: Two stars
  • Gap closing: Five stars
  • Graduation: Five stars
  • Early Literacy: Three stars
  • College, career, workforce and military readiness: Three stars

The progress score saw no improvement from last year. The progress component measures the academic growth of all students based on their advancements on state tests compared to the expected progress.

Paramore attributes the college, career and workforce and military readiness score to the ample opportunities for students to gain professional experience.

He said that includes internships, college credit plus programs and opportunities for students to attend Heartland Technical Education Center.

“The mindset in our district is constant improvement,” Paramore said.
