ASHLAND — The Ashland Symphony Orchestra’s “Your Passport to Great Music” season continues with “Take Off.”
The 56th concert season continues Saturday, Oct.11, with “Take Off” and an encore performance on Sunday, Oct.12, at the historic Ohio Theatre in Loudonville.
Grammy Award-winning Music Director and Conductor Michael Repper will conduct Chokfi’ by Jerod Tate, Air and Dance by Frederick Delius, and Concerto, Oboe & Strings, A minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams, featuring oboist Dwight Parry.
The concert concludes with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No.29, K.201 (186a), A major.
Join us Saturday in the Archer Auditorium at Ashland High School, 1440 King Road, for
a pre-concert talk at 6:50 p.m., and the performance at 7:30 p.m.
The encore performance is Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Ohio Theatre.
Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate is a classical composer and a member of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma. He is an alumnus of the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he received the Alumni Achievement Award.
Tate’s former piano instructor, Elizabeth Pastor was an outstanding pianist, educator, and community leader at both Ashland University and the Cleveland Institute of Music. Tate’s remarkable music not only showcases his passion for music, but also reflects his love for his culture and the beauty of nature.
One critic described his work by saying, “His ear for colors produced vivid tonal images… the whole work is extraordinarily evocative…” — Classical New Jersey.

Parry is an adjunct professor of oboe and chamber music at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, as well as the principal oboist for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and an assistant professor of oboe at Bowling Green State University.
Parry has had the opportunity to perform in concert halls from New Orleans
to Indonesia.
