Hillsdale clinches home playoff game, remains atop Region 27 computer ratings

COLUMBUS — The computer ratings are out and Hillsdale’s dominant regular season has already resulted in a reward.

The Falcons (8-0) remain No. 1 in Division VII, Region 27 with 14.200 points. Coach Trevor Cline’s club has clinched a home playoff game with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

The top 12 in each region will qualify for the playoffs, with the top four seeds getting a first-round bye.

Hillsdale is also 5-0 in the Wayne County Athletic League after pounding Northwestern 49-7 on Friday night.

The Falcons host Rittman 5-3, 2-3 this weekend hoping to keep pace with WCAL co-leader Norwayne, which is also unbeaten in the conference. Hillsdale travels to Creston for the league championship game in Week 10.

Ashland too sits alone atop Division II, Region 7 with 19.675 points after handling West Holmes 40-7 last weekend. The Arrows are a perfect 8-0 overall while riding an 18-game regular-season winning streak.

Coach Scott Valentine’s squad controls its own destiny in the postseason, and in the conference chase. The Arrows are 4-0 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference, and heavily favored to stay that way this week at home against winless Wooster.

The big test looms in Week 10 at league co-leader Lexington.

Crestview’s 34-0 loss to Western Reserve last week was a costly one. Not only was that the Cougars’ first loss in Firelands Conference play, it dropped coach Steve Haverdill’s team to 14th in Division VI, Region 23 with 7.875 points.

Crestview (5-3, 4-1) has a huge opportunity in postseason points and league positioning on Friday night when league leader Monroeville (6-2, 5-0) rolls into Olivesburg.
